Steve,
The Olympus E330 is almost the same camera, with the added benefit of  
having even some more features than the D3. The tilting LCD screen  
comes to mind as the most useful of those extra features. Even the  
Zuiko lens is said in almost every test  to outperform the Vario- 
Elmar lens. And the Olympus kit is wildly less expensive (at least  
here: $1200 versus $2600 or $1900 with the -700 rebate).
