I'm sure the E3 is good, because I'm very impressed by the noise on the 
E510. This was taken at 1600 iso

Steve,

I didn't realize the E3 existed until you posted your photos and the  
4/3rd question came up. Your dog photos look wonderful. The camera  
looks like one of Oly's best efforts. But how is the noise  
performance in the higher ISO's of say 400 to 800 and a severe crop?  
I'm trying to duplicate the DMR performance (or close) for my long  
lenses and I need good hi ISO performance, better then the 20D. If  
the body has focus confirmation with any lens that's a big plus.
