I have not updated the OS on my desktop for about 3 years. One thing
I forgot to mention in my previous post is that that computer is not
connected to the Internet. This did not happen by design, but by
accident: about 3 years ago I got a new ISP, and in trying to
configure that desktop to work with it, I screwed up the network
settings so badly that days of cursing and invoking the deities of
Seattle did not help. So I decided to just leave the computer as it
was, and used various other computers around the house for the net.
In retrospect, this was no bad thing. It means that the computer on
which most of my photographic output from the past several years is
kept has no chance of getting infected with any virus, spyware and
whatnot.
