Greg,
Buy it now and do not pass go.  It's predecessor, the 850 was a very good
little camera that was always hard to get.  The only down side is relatively
short battery life in some cases(battery variance) and the typical Canon
Menu/Function confusion especially if you switch from manual to automatic.

You will get a fine little camera that takes a great image.
