This is easily resolved, as cats are relatively 
fragile creatures.  A .22 long-rifle ought to do 
the trick.  Aim for the back of the head.  Do this outside, incidentally.

I recommend a Sulcata Tortoise as a 
replacement.  They are low-maintenance critters 
and are very long lived.  Besides, they are 
voracious eaters and will keep your grass trimmed in the summertime.
