so far. With the 28, 35 and 50, the framelines are really conservative for
me when I tested them between 2 and 3m. The 90 frame is quite small in the
M8 finder as you know. I wouldn't expect to judge the exact edges with that
one or of course, the 135 which has no frame. Another factor may be that I
am used to looking at mounted slides from film Ms (hence there's effectively
a small crop) and also I get immediate feedback with the sensor screen on
the new camera.
Anecdotally I get noticeably more in the frame using the shorter lenses at
my most common distances than I recall happened with film M's. No problem,
just learning to frame more tightly which is no bad thing. No complaints
here. For my technical curiosity I must now set up another test for myself

It's set up precisely the same as with the film M's. Check it out.
The reason that the lines are set for the closest focusing distance
for a focal length is so that you don't cut anything off. Better to
have some spare room around the image than cut off something
important. Good decision.
Cameras like the M2 and M3 appear to have more accurate framing
because at that time no lens focused closer than 1m without help. The
difference in framing between 1m and 0.7m is significant.
90mm lenses have their frame lines set for 1m, and 135mm lenses have
their frame lines set for 1.5m.
