Frank, I think that George already alluded to that. The sensor quality is
only one part of the image chain. I think that most Leica enthusiasts would
acknowledge that the quality of the prime lenses and the rangefinder
approach are two parts of that chain that are great strengths of the M8. In
fact, my experience with the M8 sensor has been very positive. It easily
outperforms scanning pro slide film, which was my previous benchmark.
As an amateur, I can only echo George's high opinion of the resolution,
dynamic range, colour reproduction and tonal range in the shadows. To that I
would add that the M8's DNG Raw files also offer superb highlight
reproduction with appropriate exposure, not to mention the benefits in
exposure control and productivity.

Ah but that could also be the anti aliasing filter and
IR filter not just the sensor............
