I owned two Citro?n DS, a 1961 ID19 and a 1973 D Super 5. Rust was an issue,
but not as bad as the reputation french cars had especially in Germany
(where, at this time, good looking cars were foreign made, except the 911's
and SL's). Alfa Romeos were the rusting monsters, then :-) ...

What finally killed my DS was not the rust (as the chassis had been hot zinc
dipped a long time before) but the non-availability, or excessively high
prices, of spare parts starting in the mid 90-ies.

Btw, there aren't much car producers who introduced more innovations on the
market than Citro?n (german wiki page here http://tinyurl.com/4lnsaf).
