In rural Alaska where few people have electric power, winter car-starting
strategies include:

drain the crankcase oil once you park the car and bring the oil inside
where it's warm, then re-fill the crankcase oil when you want to start the
car

or

light a fire under the oil pan to warm the oil before starting the car.
