The ultimate paradox is, if guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will 
have them. No criminal is going to avoid using a gun for a robbery or 
murder for fear that he might be caught with a gun. And even if they 
were outlawed and the US managed to get ALL of them, out borders are 
leaky enough that anyone in the drug trade will get them immediately 
through those channels.

Like the atomic bomb, it would be nice if this weren't an issue. In the 
south, fireams are ubiquitous. I think that the best solution to the 
issue would be to (like England) ban all handguns, with strict 
descriptions of what constitutes handguns. Most people can defend their 
house with a shotgun or rifle.

About 15 years ago, Governor Mike Foster pushed legislation that would 
enable just about anyone other than a felon to carry concealed weapons. 
The left said that it would turn the state into the wild, wild west. So 
far, it has been anything but. The shooters are still the felons.
