Or.... are you asking about the focus plane of the camera, regardless of
lens chosen?

The plane of focus in film is pretty think.... the thickness of the
gelatinous stuff we call emulsion....  Certainly measured in ( whole?
Fractional?) thousands of an inch.

The plane of focus of a digital sensor is infinitesimally thin.... like a
few microns, at most.

So your lens must be better calibrated in the digital domain to get a sharp
image.  In film, you get some slop to help you out......
