It is indeed big in England.  But there is no legal basis for any ban on
taking photos of [police/public buildings/rail stations] as has been made
explicit in the formal advice to police officers (added emphasis is in the
original):

"The Terrorism Act 2000 *does not prohibit people from taking photographs or
digital images* ... Officers should not prevent people from taking
photographs unless they are in an area where photography is prevented by

The term 'other legislation' most likely means the Official Secrets Act, and
the specific 'prohibited places' defined therein.

This is big in England right now I'm always getting the British Journal of
Photography as in email and that's usually the headline not this week
though.
