[Leica] S2 release dates and prices

I think the fundamental thing here is volume. If the only lens type which 
requires this type of sensor is the Leica M range, and similar, the risk is 
that nobody will be able to produce a good business plan to develop a new 
sensor type for such a tiny market, unless the R&D is trivial, which it can 
not be otherwise it would already have been done.
Software is unable to recreate info which is not there, so whilst it is OK 
for distortion and colour correction it is not going to be able to fix 
everything.
Already part of the potential dynamic range of the sensor is used up in 
corner corrections even on the 1.5 ratio Epson RD1 and 1.3 ratio M8. Relying 
on software for this will result in very limited dynamic range in corners. 
An internal center ND filter could compensate for this but then your f1.4 
lens becomes a f2.8 or f4 (with the DoF of a f1.4...), depending on what 
would be needed.
I do not hold out much hope for a new technology sensor specifically for 
this type of lens design.
I have got rather used to my M8 now, and don't think about the crop factor 
at all when taking pictures.

Perhaps so Mark.
Yet, again, if we're speaking of optics and precise placement of image 
plane, etc.
The software fix would seem to have to create information that doesn't exist.

It would seem that retro focus lens designs would be the way to go
yet their latest wides remain short focus designs.
