Geoff,

Thanks for the advice on sharpening, I will try that.

As for the pop-up, I sliced the image into 9402 64x64 pixel squares.  The 
browser runs a javascript routine compute the cursor offset and from that
compute the file names of the squares and loads appropriate 8x8 array into a
matrix which the pop-up "sees".  The right edge logic is a little funky.
