Bill as long as the surface is clean and dry the paint should adhere with no
problems (assuming that it is in a recess). I suggest degreasing the metal
surface with a solvent that will not leave any residue. Perhaps a cotton
bud?
Of course you need to be careful that none of this solvent or paint ends up
where it shouldn't. The recess is likely the biggest factor. Anything on the
flat mount will wear at some point and a build up of paint would do so more
quickly.
