Actually, he said it pretty well in a follow up article some times later,
which I will summarize as such:

Basically, it's the value proposition: people who want absolute best and can
afford it, go for it.

OTOH, the difference between the absolute best and the budget solution is a
lot closer than even a few years ago. Digital is the equalizer, when it
comes to the output.
