I understand but the very first picture I took with the camera had the spots on the sensor. They weren't well defined enough to affect the picture but they are definitely there. As I mentioned, I didn't notice them before because they were against a cluttered background. I don't change my lenses in a clean room but I think it unlikely that I spat anything into the camera the very first time I put a lens on it. I'm not especially bothered by this as it's about time for a sensor clean anyway but it does look as if the sensor had the spots on it before I bought it.
