George,
In sectors like IT the unemployment rate in the USA is hovering around 4%,
i.e. there is a shortage of manpower. USA is facing a two pronged failure
right now - encouraging the 'wrong' sort of education (no focus on science,
math and engineering) for a generation and the stupidest economic policy
that I can think of, which exarcebates the unemployment problem. The
solution is in intensive retraining, but at least from where I am sitting, I
do not see that happening - as long as money is printed by the bucket full
to save a few banks as the primary objective, there is going to be nothing
left for anything else - no jobs training, no infarstructure, no public
projects. Deficit financing is not bad if it used to create human and
physical infrastructure that will lead to growth further down the road, but
Obama's economic team has been brain dead on this from the start.....
Cheers
Jayanand
