They are indeed carnivores. I was refering to habitat - that the natives 
might attract more critters for the mantises to eat.

Since we put in the native grasses and plants in the front we've seen a 
marked up-tick in birds, especially in the spring when they find the long 
blades perfect for nest building. Most of the grasses will have dead blades 
over the winter that the birds scavenge.
