Herb.  Have you looked at the videos on Adobe's site?  This one in 
particular?

I experimented a bit with shots that had been worked in LR3 in the
past. I was very impressed with what LR3's "fill light" did for areas
in shadow for some shots where lighting was lacking in areas. I
messed with some of these in LR4 and was not especially impressed,
but this was a first try, and, among other things, I had neglected to
reinterpret them as 2012 rendering (or whatever the correct term is).
I will play around some more until I think I understand what the
renamed sliders actually do. But unless I see some clear improvement,
I am unlikely to waste money and time on LR4.
