I would not characterize the west coast this way.  Many of us outside
southern California do our best to distance ourselves economically,
politically, morally and culturally from the popular LA culture.  And often
the LAPD strikes us in other parts of the west as a protected fiefdom.  We
have no desire to emulate Los Angeles.
