Richard,

It used to be.  Software correction ( in the camera and in editing) has
improved greatly.
For all the negatives of shooting with a dslr, the next generation of
cameras tries to improve on those negatives.

I don't use them (except occasionally) because I don't like the ergonomics
and I don't like the solutions for the sound issues.

I am in the minority by not using them.  Most of the low to mid level ( and
some high level) gigs are shot with them these days.
Tv news guys don't use them at all. Newspaper guys use them almost
exclusively.  They are very popular with indie film makers and film
students.  They are stupidly cheap until you stick a Zacuto rig on them.
