Well you've touched on my points well Bill.
(and this is not to denigrate one system over the other)

Nikon and Canon (Cmos) deliver smooth, soft, and very useable high ISO/ASA 
image files.
M and DMR (CCD) delivers fine detail (though not high ISO/ASA) image files.

For me - the world has never been smooth or soft.
I love the world and its fine details.
I so want a medium format system - to show me even more of them there fine 
details.
It's why I loved large format photography.
