Nathan.... I bought some 2 years ago from EBay and was very happy with the
quality of the aftermarket batteries. At 1/10 the price it was a good deal.
They are all starting to die.
The batteries I bought a few months ( 2? 3?) ago were no good. They were
not a good deal. Most have started to die already.
The OEM battery I got with the camera is holding up just fine. It is 2 1/2
years old.

In my way of thinking, keeping 1 OEM battery ensures you have 1 working
battery you can depend on. Especially on a trip when it it is not always
possible to keep batteries charged. I will continue to purchase more
aftermarket batteries to augment the one OEM battery.

The new OEM battery was $100..... not the $130-150 ++ that dealers MSRP
indicates. DTSE sold me the not so good aftermarket batteries for $15
each.

YMMV

BTW, why doubt anything/everything purchased through EBay is not OEM? Seems
a bit harsh. Most of my photographic purchases in the past few years has
come from Ebay... including my M8. The M8 came from a registered Leica USA
dealer.

I doubt that anything you bought from an ebay supplier is OEM.

On the other hand, Leica does not actually manufacture batteries, so in a
way there are no "Leica" batteries. Both my M8 batteries say "FOR LEICA M8"
or something like that. They look identical, but I cannot imagine that I
actually spent money on buying the 2nd battery from a Leica dealer. I cannot
tell which one is the one that came with the M8 and which one is
aftermarket.

Just try it and see--what do you have to lose?

Cheers,
Nathan
