Certainly a good reason.... but X-Rays is not the full story....

SDHC cards can have 32GB capacities.  That is roughly 2,000 M9 images.  600
rolls of film.  At one ounce per roll, that is 600 ounces or 40 pounds. 

That would not even clear the weight issues with airline travel these
days....

Maybe it was the camera industry that pushed for weight reductions on
airlines.....

I've read that he switched to digital because carrying large amounts of film
on airline flights without it getting ruined by X-Rays had basically become
impossible.
