plus the chance of slipping is higher with cotton socks.
bare feet have better grip.

You may not wear sandals with socks in the summer.  In the winter, it's
fine with Birkenstock type sandals and heavy woolen socks.  In the summer
you have to go barefoot in the sandals.  Toenails are fine if they are
clipped and clean.

Not really fashion police, just common sense!!
