Aerodynamicists always endeavor to design wings without Vortex Generators, 
that's why they  are not designed in from the beginning, but added due to 
results in flight testing. Although they offer advantages, there is one big 
disadvantage: drag. That's something that they endeavor to reduce as low as 
possible as it has a major impact on speed and fuel economy.
