That is the quintessential issue Tina. If the new firmware assesses your
battery state as more likely to cause write problems you may find your
camera in snapshot mode (!) or having a nana nap.
The batteries themselves are unaffected. As I understand it the M9
npreviously did not have power management the same as the M8 has but it
is tougher on batteries due to much larger processng volumes.

Currently I'm unaware of any confirmed image quality improvement as part of
this update. It's only meant to address those reported occasional
card/write problems and add at least one new lens officially.
So if you never had any problems (like me) and won't be buying the new APO
Summicron 50 (also like me!) there's no benefit to updating this time.
Of course your batteries will work the same as always in your M8.
