This is the new "film vs. digital" argument.

Of course Tina and John and a bunch of others are right that for some
photogs, there really is nothing close to an M or Mx. And this includes
pros and collectors and everyone in between.

Of course Frank is right that most of the noise about Magnum photog using a
Leica is pure marketing - Leica puts them in their hands.

Heck, right at this moment, a Magnum photographer is driving across the
country with a Leica S2 that Leica put in his hands.

And it's true that most new Leica are going to China, and most of them are
not top flight photojournalists.

Of course this strategy could backfire if the noveau riche decides a
different bling is the status symbol. I mean, a Tibetan Mastiff for
$600,000...? They could turn to other things than Leica...
