Hello John,
I would say the difference in burn time effects was probably due to the hole
in the "OZONE LAYER" over your side of the planet.

You in Kiwi land & the Aussies suffer the same extra radiation due to this
hole in the atmosphere. On my one and only assignment to your beautiful
country covering the Commonwealth Games a few years ago. The first topic in
our crew briefing was "To absolutely wear SUN-SCREEN during our time there,
no question!"

Then it was explained why and it didn't matter how long you were in the sun
back home in Canada! It's a "Whole new ball game here, "NEW ZEALAND" as far
as radiation! "SUN SCREEN IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST! WEAR IT OR GET SHIPPED HOME
IMMEDIATELY!" Trust me he wasn't joking!

Unfortunately Canada's Lawn Bowling Team, many of them didn't pay attention
during their briefing and the first day on the Green's were badly burnt
faces, heads and arms! Several were hospitalized. Then shipped home as soon
as fit to fly!

But I'm sure you must be aware of this OZONE situation?

cheers,
ted
