For a given camera, I would expect have the lens exceed the camera 
resolution is preferable. That would mean that you have the best output your 
camera can make, if the sensor out resolves the lens then fine detail will 
just be unsharp.

Gets into a greyer area if comparing two systems, e.g. a 18MP with a lens 
that exceeds its sensor or a 36MP where the sensor out resolves the 
lens......
