There is definitely a bleakness about it, and it is all rather overwhelming, but the beauty is also undeniable. When you see paintings by Lawren Harris (google him to get a sense) in a gallery in the populated (southern) parts of Canada, they look like an abstraction, but they aren't. They're realism.
