Jaysus, Philippe, with my less than adroit paring'n'peeling, the thought of
me having a viciously sharp Victorinox weapon in my clumsy hands makes me
break out in a cold sweat. I'd drop a digit a day, and that's a tough, and
very bloody, way to lose weight...

Mind you I do have Victorinox steak knives and they are excellent. I used
one yesterday, as my cat scored a significant victory over his house humans
on the foraging front. On Saturday, I had cooked venison and served most of
it up. Stupidly, I forgot to put the remainder into the microwave to both
hide it from the cat, and to let it cool down naturally. Cats have noses, an
intense sense of smell, and an equally intense curiosity. While we went into
another room, she found it on the worktop, dragged it down to the floor, and
set about it. Oh deer...

My wife walked in, saw the mess and shouted "The cat's been sick!" and
quickly withdrew. When I went in to the kitchen, I retorted that, if she had
been sick, she not only threw up her entire stomach, but her back legs as
well, explaining what had happened, and picking up the remnant. As Bambi's
mother was lost to the representatives of humanity in the house, our feline
benefitted as I carefully cut up the remnants into tiny pieces with the
steak knife, put it in bags, and into the freezer for her in the future. She
followed my movements closely, and, over the next while, I hope she'll make
the next evolutionary leap for cathood with a new appreciation of the art of
delayed gratification.
