Doug... don't the R mount ROM lenses transmit the set F-Stop ?

The automatic aperture capability requires an ability to communicate the
aperture setting to the camera's metering system (i.e., the R lens' cams) in
order to operate seamlessly.  It's certainly possible but it adds a little
more complication than just operating the diaphragm.
