I am a techie who has spent his entire career trying to make things as 
simple as possible. It is not easy. Whilst it is true that some confuse 
"complex" with "sophisticated" the fundamental problem is often lack of time 
and resource to do things thoroughly.
Analogous to the Mark Twain (mis) quote "sorry this letter is so long I did 
not have time to write a short one"
