The R and M glass are both equally good.  In many cases the R stuff is 
rated as some of the best optics going.  The 100 APO 2.8  is just one of 
many excellent R lenses.

As far as my personal input has been the low light problems have had more 
to do with the autofocus cameras ie Canon EOS and Nikon F5 not the R, as 
a matter of fact it has been reported the R8 has by far the brightest 
viewfinder on the market today.
