Subject: [Leica] R24 - Compatability with Leiflex SL/SL2

The SL2 was introduced with three Minolta designed lenses: the 16mm
Elmarit-R, the 24mm Elmarit-R and one of the zoom lenses. Because of the
design of the lenses, which protruded further into the camera that
previously available R lense, they could not be used on the SL or the
Leicaflexes. If they were used, the mirror and the rear of the lenses would
be damaged. To avoid this problem with the SL2, the mirror was designed to
retract and then rise at the release of the shutter button. I have heard of
SL and Leicaflex users modifying the mirror with a cut-away portion on the
bottom of the mirror so that these lenses could be used.
