You raise a fascinating point.  We do become accustomed to periodic breaks
in our televison watching.  The American Movie Channel used to cluster its
ads between the movies it showed.  After some years, they caved in, for the
very reason that their viewers did occasionally have empty glasses or full
bladders.  They now run advertisements as does everyone else.
