This is from someone (Brian Booth) who toured the Leica factory in Solms
and reported his findings on the Leica Forum..

"The Digital M will according to Leicas technical manager be made with the
same sensor size as the digital R and Herr Cohn mentioned that Kodak and
Imacon will make the sensor, again the same manufactorer as the R. We were
told yesterday that Leica will make a really wide angle lens specially for
the digital M because all the focal lengths of existing lenses will become
longer so to remedy the problem of very wide angle lenses becoming medium
wide angle lenses it will be neccesary to make the extra wide angle lens.
The digital M will have the frame system viewfinder the same as the
analogue M but with the new focal length sizes to take account for the
focal length exension. All of the present M lenses can be used with a
digital M except maybe the 135 mm because that will become around a 180mm
lens on the digital M.The release date will be 2006."
