Subject: [Leica] Another reason to hate Canon. -CORRECTION

Dan,
As Ted has said, we haven't seen the camera yet so all is speculation.
However, I can say that the progression to ever brighter screens has
made manual focus more difficult. Generally, a coarser screen snaps
into focus much better than a very bright screen. Leica got around this
by putting some really fine microprisms in the SL screen which combined
with a truly excellent prism and coatings on the prism make it both very
crisp focusing and very bright.

I suspect that the manual focusing on this machine will be quite good.
The reviewer notes that in low light there is no difference so when
focusing is hardest, the screen is there for you.

The latest offerings from Canon truly set the bar much higher for the
competition. Let us all hope that the F6 is a stunning design as with
the D20 at $1500 the 10D may drop to the $1000 price point and the
digital Rebel will drop to something pretty cheap. With three models of
pretty decent camera under $1500 not just Leica will be looking for a
niche to stay alive in.

All is not gravy. Read what the guy at dpreview says about the
viewfinder
for the Canon 20D (or said, I can't seem to find it now). To save
money,
Canon has used a smaller prism and smaller mirror, resulting in a
noticably
darker and grittier view of the groundglass.

Check out
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/20d-part1.shtml. This
is
where I got the poor viewfinder info.

"...This makes the viewfinder a bit dimmer and a bit coarser than the
previous generation. The coarseness isn't all that apparent indoors or
under low contrast outdoor light conditions, but outdoors on a bright
sunny
day it's painfully obvious. (Canon claims that the coarseness to aid
manual
focusing, but that's just marketing BS; simply an attempt to turn a
deficiency into a feature)."
