The funnies part about all of this is that all this is happening at a
time when the film market's dying and the digital market's growing. Most
of us already have our film M bodies - what am I going to do, sell my Ms
to buy the Zeiss cameras because they're just as good and cheaper? All
of this is really silly...It seems to me the only questions that matter
are:

When will the digital body be ready and what will it cost?
And, will the lenses be up to par, what will they cost, and when will
they be ready?

Because thinking about it - isn't the 15 f 2.8 really intended to serve
as the 21 2.8 on a digital body, while the 25 2.8 will be a 35, the 35
will be a 50, the 40 1.4 will be 60-70 1.4, and the 85 f 2 will be
about a 120 - THAT's what this is really all about....and meanwhile, if
it's available, Zeiss can grab some film market share. But they're not
going to grab it from many of us.

:-)

I wasn't speaking of the MP or M7, but the Leicas that you design
yourself looks-wise. Wasn't that just about the only offering they had
at Photokina?

There's no way anybody can call the M7 or the MP
designer cameras. They are in my opinion the best
Leicas ever made and therefore among the finest
photo-making tools ever.

How many of you have used either long enough to
discover that truth?

What is astonishing to me is how such numbers of
previously professed Leica users are rushing like
fools towards the alleged pleasures of digital
masturbation, like a bunch of 12-year-old schooboys.

And wasn't it here that we've read for years about how
nobody likes red dots, wants black paint or vulcanite
or fewer framelines or less plastic or the old classy engraving? So here
you got it with "a la carte," as the icing on the cakes of two wonderful
M cameras, and now there's nothing but sneering here about "designer
cameras" ?

So keep pushing and pulling on the sticky knobs and
buttons attached to those battery-swallowing LCD
screens. Just don't go crying when Leica withers for
no good reason other than the need of so many to wank
around with the latest mod con.
