That's a harrowing story. What could even a terrorist do with tourist shots? 
So many photos appear in the media, I doubt whether another shot by a 
tourist 
would increase the danger. You may have looked suspicious to this guard.

Polly with a P&S might not have prompted this reaction. But you had a Leica, 
an instrument not known to most people. So this guy got suspicious. Go 
incognito next time.
