Sorry to hear of your horror story.  Probably about any dog would turn out
to be a bad dog when owned by somebody you just described.

Unfortunately, doggie racism is alive and well.

When I bought my first house, I was going to stick with the company with
whom I had renter's insurance:  Metropolitan.  The agent asked if I had a
dog.

"No, but I'm going to get one."

"Good.  Just don't get a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Doberman, or pit
bull."  (Uhm...that's 3 of my favorite dogs.  I have nothing against pit
bulls...I just don't really want a terrier.  My temperment is better suited
for dogs in the working groups.)

"I'll be getting a German Shepherd puppy."

"You can't.  We won't allow that."

So, I ended up going with State Farm because a friend that owned a Rottie
had State Farm.  Their agent laughed when I asked if they cared what kind of
dog I was going to buy.  They only cared if the individual dog had a history
of violence.  They weren't going to discriminate against a 7 week old puppy.
