One of the first times I took my dad's IIIF out for a day's work, the
clip on the camara strap let loose and the camera fell about 4 feet
onto a gravel roadway. I was devastated. The camera survived the
fall with few bruises; the Leicavit winder took the brunt of it. I
think the camera had to have the rangefinder aligned after the fall.
Other than that, the scars to the winder and the camera have faded
over time so that they are barely noticeable to me now. With all this
and the fact that my father's IIIF was his main camera during his
military service in Africa (US Army Asmara, Ethiopia) and was used
heavily, it still looks and works great. Hell of a camera. I bought
a IIIc and an M6 for daily users; my dad's IIIF has too much
sentimental value to risk loss.
