Hi Jim,

Take a look at http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html for a Scanner driver 
that may work for your old scanner under XP. 
http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#supported shows the list 
of 400 of them. It is excellent software, at least the OSX version 
that I have used with several Firewire and SCSI flatbeds. It may be 
cheaper than a replacement scanner, the Standard Edition costs 
US$49.95 and the Professional Edition costs US$89.85.
