I fly the flag on Flag Day and on the 4th of July and Memorial Day and
have every year for as long as I've had a home to live in.

For our mid-western raised family it's a way to celebrate the founding
of the United States and to honor those who have served and who
created the nation. I don't apologize for that nor should I have to.

Yes, the flag gets co-opted for political differences. And B.D. is
attempting to do just the same thing but in the opposite direction in
essence claiming that anyone flying the flag is a mindless dolt.

And I remember, after 9/11or maybe at the Iraq war start there was an
image posted here, of a flag and someone, I think a Canadian, decried
it for posting an offensive image.

Symbols have many meanings. There are cultural differences.  Clearly
they don't apply to everyone. Too bad.

Live with it.
