Subject: [Leica] Flash for Digital Rebel

This is off-topic, but does anyone know if you can use a regular electronic 
flash (like a Vivitar 2800) on the digital Rebel (original model)?  Or do 
you 
have to use their more expensive dedicated flash.  I'm asking on behalf of a 
friend.
