I don't think you are on your own at all; and I think that "even" BD would 
concur that there are merits to the old lenses. There is a certain feel to 
the 
images produced by them that you don't get with more modern - even 50s - 
glass. 
That arises because of the advances in technology since.

It might appear that the taste of most people on the LUG is for higher 
contrast 
photographs with far greater degrees of detail. It certainly isn't that of 
all, 
go check out some of the stuff on the FOM2 pages as well as what is in our 
own 
galleries. If you like shooting with older lenses do that, the photograph is 
more than just a clinical image, your taste comes into it too. If you like 
shooting with older lenses to produce images that you like, do it.
