Steve. I've got some slides to scan today. I'll try both 8 and 16 bit  
of the same slide. I've tried 16 bit in the past when I wanted  
ultimate quality for a very large print. As I recall the original  
tiffs looked pretty much identical and of course the 16 bit files are  
now getting really big. I'll play with both files to see if the 16  
bit holds up longer.
