Having cycled for some 50 years now; it seems to me that, in general,
drivers have less and less patience for cyclists. This seems to
coincide with the road-rage phenomenon. I haven't noticed any
particular vehicle model being less courteous than any other. It
seems that the SUV's simply take up too much road width and also
appear unaware of their right side and cyclist's rights. These new
trends (increased close calls) combined with my age cause me to
consider doing less rather than more cycling. ;~(

Back when children and young adults actually biked to wherever they
needed to go it seemed that folks were more tolerant. Now that
cycling-for-transportation and/or sport has become primarily an adult
activity; drivers seem to think that they shouldn't exist on the
roads. The suburbs do not plan for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Any discussion and/or planning of ecological transportation should
include bike and pedestrian lanes, bike and pedestrian pathways, bike
racks on buses, trains, subways, etc.
